About three weeks before the election, I began to sense an excitement in the atmosphere around me, which really made no sense because there was such a deep divide in political views across the nation. Yet I was still sensing a change — a change in a good way. I knew the Lord was up to something. This feeling would not leave me.
It’s wasn’t just the excitement of a new season, there was something more. This was going to be a year of opportunity for so much! I believe that there will be open doors this year that have been shut for too long. I believe that we are going to see the fruit of the prayers prayed in the last season. I believe that God is going to show up in miraculous ways this year. I believe that physical healings will increase; and I believe that financial opportunities will increase.
Having said all of that, there’s something more – something bigger going on. I believe this year that God is going to pour out deeper revelation, greater wisdom and a greater love than we have known. As God is pouring into you, who will you pour into? Who will you mentor this year? I want to challenge you to choose one person this year that you will pour into, that you will mentor.
I know what you’re thinking — Cindy, do you know how busy I am? I can’t fit another thing in my schedule. Well, then you are like the majority of people I know – you’re busy. It may not be as hard as you think. It may not be as time consuming as you think. Ask the Lord if He is calling you to choose one to mentor. Ask God to give you a name and then ask Him what He wants you to do. He will give you the wisdom and knowledge that you need.
James 1:5 (NIV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Can we partner with God for this generation? Can we hear His voice and be obedient to what He calls us to do? Are we willing to sacrifice our time to mentor the next generation that will follow us? They are, after all, the next leaders. They will be making decisions for your grandchildren and your great grandchildren. What will you give? What will you sow — not so that you can reap, but for those who follow you?
Are you willing to hear who God has for you to mentor this year? Will you hear His heart? I want to challenge you to ask the Lord for one. Just sow into one. You have no idea who your one may turn out to be. You could be mentoring the next Billy Graham or Kari Jobe.
I love the story of Elijah and Elisha in 2 Kings 2: 1-17. Elijah spent many years mentoring Elisha. Elisha watched and listened carefully to everything that Elijah did and said. Elijah asked Elisha what he could do for him before he left to go to heaven. Elisha replied, “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit.” That’s what we can give to the next generation by mentoring — a greater portion, a double portion. Our ceiling of wisdom, knowledge and love becomes their floor, which they will build upon. Jesus told His disciples that they would do even greater things than Him in His name. Jesus understood the value of mentoring and the incredible impartation that goes with it. Elijah understood this as well.
Who will you raise up this year? Who will you train and equip to do greater things than you?
Who will be your one?
