We are living in a generation that needs to hear God’s voice. I have personally watched as people have heard God’s voice for the first time; and as a result, great transformation has taken place in their lives.
When I had my first child, I remember the growth process that took place. As a newborn, he was totally dependent on me feeding him, watching over him and praying for him. As he grew, he began to sit up, then roll around and sometimes drag himself on the floor. Then he would get up on his knees and rock back and forth. So you knew that crawling was just around the corner. I was so excited to see him move from crawling to walking. I remember when he took his first steps. I was elated! As a mother, it really brought joy to me as I watched him walk for the first time. He was quickly developing and learning something new. He was no longer confined by a limited floor space; now he could actually explore new places, new territory.
It is the same with teaching others to hear God’s voice. When I hear them talk about their encounter with God, the joy of the Lord wells up inside of me. I love to watch the expression on their face as they hear the Lord’s voice for the first time. Just as I enjoyed watching every step that my son took, I also enjoy watching as someone moves to the next step in their spiritual walk with God. It is beautiful to see someone start to develop their own personal relationship with the Lord. They no longer “depend” on someone else to feed, watch over and even pray for them every step that they take. They have learned how to pray (talk to God) on their own. They have developed an intimacy with the Lord that is just between them and God. They are well on their way to a deeper relationship with the Lord. They will always be fed (taught) by Pastors, teachers and others; but now the Holy Spirit will teach them as well in a new and exciting way. They can now move from being spoon fed by others to eating meat on their own.
I believe that God loves to watch as we discover new things about Him. Just as we love to watch over our children, I believe it brings God incredible joy to watch us as we learn to hear His voice.
“Give a man a word from the Lord and he will be edified; teach a man to hear God’s voice, and he will have faith that produces hope for a lifetime.”
