Last weekend I attended a Writer’s Retreat hosted by Shine Digital Marketing. The hash tag for the event was #Letyourwriteshine. Creative, right?
As I was thinking about writing this blog, I kept hearing the word “Creativity.” According to Wikipedia, creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed.
At this retreat, I met women who used their creativity to start or build businesses and/or ministries. They created something from nothing. How is that possible?
Genesis 1:1-3 (NKJV) the History of Creation
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light;” and there was light.
Amos 4:13 (NKJV)
13 For behold, He who forms mountains,
And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is,
And makes the morning darkness,
Who treads the high places of the earth—
The Lord God of hosts is His name.
Amos tells us who God is and what He does. It says that He reveals His thoughts to man. God is creative by nature; and if we are created in His image, (Gen.1:27) that means that we are called to create. If, according to Amos, God reveals His thoughts to us, why not ask Him to give us creative ideas, witty inventions, the words for the books we’re going to write and the music He wants us to compose?
After spending time with many of these ladies, I was amazed at the creative ideas they had. Many took the gifts God has given them and added those abilities to a creative idea – nothing into something! They created businesses and ministries that have value. I really enjoyed the weekend. It was as if God unleashed creativity that was locked up within me.
If you’re feeling stuck, I would encourage you to attend some type of creative conference or retreat. You’ll come back with fresh insight, vision and new creativity.
Remember that we are created in God’s image. He is creative; therefore, we are creative. Ask the Lord to give you creative ideas for your life, for your business and for your ministry. Watch out! He may awaken the sleeping, creative Giant within you!
