As I was thinking about Mother’s Day this weekend, I thought about the many celebrations that would take place. Then my thoughts turned to the people who may not look at Mother’s Day as a joyous time.
For some people, Mother’s Day brings up a lot of memories, and not always good ones. I was listening to Danny Gokey’s song, “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again.” As I listened to the words, I was reminded of the promises of God.
When the Israelites left Egypt to go to the Promised Land, their journey was long and hard. They faced challenges that would test their character and faith in God. They were even frustrated to the point that they were willing to go back to Egypt and live in slavery, despite all of the miracles and promises of God. At least there in Egypt, they knew the circumstances before them.
Sometimes in life, uncertainty will test our faith. We begin to feel out of control and extremely uncomfortable. Like the Israelites, the journey may be long and difficult; but we must walk through the desert to get to the Promised Land. It is in that place that your hopes and dreams are fulfilled.
So if this Mother’s Day is stirring your emotions, and tempting you to go back to what you know, to isolate, instead of moving forward, remember that on the other side of the discomfort and pain is a promise from God. He will be with you always. He will heal your broken heart; and He will lead you to your promised land that is filled with abundance for your life. Tell your heart to beat again for the promises of God. He loves you so much!
Exodus 3:17 (NIV) 17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.
