One of my favorite verses in the last couple of years is found in Isaiah.
Isaiah 60:2. (NKJV)
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.
Whether you are on social media or just talking to people, as you listen, you will hear the hopelessness and fear that comes from their words. Both of these things will absolutely immobilize you and keep you from progressing. I know that I have walked away from the news at times feeling fear or despair. I realized that I needed a scripture to help me counter the negative thoughts that seemed to be running rampant in my mind. One day the Lord highlighted this scripture. I’ve read it before, but somehow in this season of my life, this scripture came alive. It seemed to breathe life and hope into my future. It brought much comfort to me. It actually gives me hope that God is going to do something great in the midst of darkness.
This verse talks about a deep darkness. I think if you watch the news and see what’s going on in the world around us, you will see deep darkness over some people. Yet there is a promise from God Almighty that He will arise over you. His glory — His presence will be seen upon you. What does that look like?
Have you ever met people that seem different at first glance? You notice that something is different about them as opposed to other people that you meet. There is a peace about them that is genuine and not fake. They seem to have joy. They speak encouraging words. It’s not that they do not acknowledge the events of the world, but they have a faith and trust that even in the middle of turmoil, things are going to be ok. It makes no sense, but they are calm; they are peaceful. There is something in them that draws you toward them. I believe that it is the Lord “arising” over them; and you can see His glory upon them.
Jesus is the light. Jesus shines His light through us. We have an opportunity every day to be light in a world of deep darkness. The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Let’s speak life! Let’s be the encouragement that others need in their life. Let us be a people of love and hope. Encourage others every opportunity you have just because you can.
